Following on from the success of the National Trust visitors centre at Ullswater, we were delighted when we were asked to design and supply an Eco Pod for the stunning Longshaw Estate in the Peak District. It was a pleasure to visit the site recently and see the finished building in its stunning new home.
Set amongst the crags and heather moorland of the UK’s original National Park, the customised Eco Pod is being used as a welcome centre on the edge of the Longshaw site. Visitors will be greeted by the natural tones of the Siberian Larch walls with a custom-designed canopy to protect walkers whilst they study the site information boards.
The interior of the building features air source heat pumps with a cooling function so the building can provide a warm and cosy sanctuary for winter visitors and refreshingly cool space when walkers call in for a cold drink in the summer! With a ceiling open to the apex there’s plenty of space for the National Trust treasures to be displayed and browsed. The full-height glazing takes in the views across the woodland and the bi-fold doors open fully to invite the visitors in from the car park to get their first insight to what Longshaw has to offer.
Combining a modern touch to a natural landscape is our specialty. As a National Trust Trusted Supplier our architects work tirelessly with the National Trust team to ensure the pods we supply are not only eco friendly but seamlessly blend into the landscape.
