When Stuart and his partner sent us some photographs of their property in the Hereford countryside and told us about their plans to install an Eco Pod in the grounds, we knew it would be special! Their gorgeous farmhouse already had the benefit of a glasshouse and other outbuildings but the Eco Pod was intended to provide a garden office space as well as a garden studio to enjoy the garden and take in the wonderful views across the valley.
We quickly established a route of access for the carriage of materials so that the Eco Pod could be built in situ. We also discussed the various customisations and options with Stuart and various additions were added to enhance the aesthetic and make the best use of the space. At the design stages we incorporated a canopy surround at eaves to allow some shading, colour matched to the rest of the building. Stuart also opted for black cladding to further emphasise the Nordic style of the garden building. Offset against the lush green landscape of the surrounding hills, the end result is stunning.
On the interior the couple opted to include the same flooring that they have in their home. We also included an air source heat pump so that the space would be warm and cosy all year around and critically to keep the space cooled in the summer. Their building will be used all year around so good interior regulation of the temperature is an important component of the building, allowing the client to get all of the advantages of full height glazing to a South facing building.
The end result is a garden building in perfect harmony with the garden and surrounding countryside. The interior is multi purpose with furnishings placed to zone out the spaces. The black exterior cladding is framed by the walled garden and opens out on to the patio area for a true transition between home and garden.
We are delighted to see the finished result.
